Omega Nu Organization
- Founded in 1897 in San Jose, California, by a small group of
high school girls
- Today Omega Nu has 12 Northern California based chapters,
each of which serves its own community through charity and service
- Santa Cruz Chapter established on April 4, 1903
- An entirely volunteer group of more than 40 women of all
ages and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Hosts 2 annual fund raisers to benefit the community
- Returns 100% of proceeds directly back to the Santa Cruz community
- 21th Annual Ducky Derby and Carnival raised over $65,000
- 54th Annual Rummage Sale raised almost $10,000 in September
2010
- Currently have 72 local scholarship recipients from 6 public
high schools, studying in California state colleges and universities,
whose
grants total $51,500
- First $500 scholarship award was made in 1957
- Total scholarships funded since 1957 is over $1,150,000
- In 2010-11 $31,453 was donated to meet the local charity
needs in Santa Cruz County
- Established pilot program named Funds for Fundamentals in
2005. In the past 7 years $135,165 has been awarded to 930 local
teachers
- Contributions of over $1.9 million have been made to the
local community over the life of the organization
- Over $500,000 contributed in the last 5 years through our
charity, scholarship and Funds for Fundamentals programs
- Chosen as a 2003 United Way Community Hero
- 2003 City of Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce Organization of the year
- Chosen as 2004 outstanding organization by Family Service Association
of Santa Cruz County
- 2008 Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce "Woman of the Year" Award
- 2009 chosen Outstanding Philanthropic Service Organization
by the Montery Bay Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals
- 2012 recieved the Santa Cruz Education Foundation Eddy Award
as Community Supporter of the year. The award acknowledges the
tremendous gift of community support for our schools
