Omega
Nu Scholarship Program
The
Omega Nu Scholarship program is one of the largest in Santa Cruz
County. The program was established in 1957 to assist qualified students
who are planning to attend public California universities or colleges.
These scholarships are based on financial need and scholastic achievement.
Over the past five years more than $230,000 has been awarded to local
high
school
and
college
students.
The amount
awarded
each
year
is
dependent on the proceeds from the annual Omega Nu fund raisers. The
eligibility and general

Eligibility and
Requirements
- High
School Seniors currently enrolled at Aptos, Harbor, Santa Cruz,
San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley, or Soquel High Schools, and for
2006 Charter Public High Schools
- Cabrillo
College students who are graduates of the above named local high
schools. UCSC or Cabrillo reentry program students who
are graduates of the above named local high schools or have been residents of Santa
Cruz County for the immediate past five years.
- High School students must have an overall GPA of 3.0
or better, or have college potential and be
recommended by a counselor. Cabrillo & UCSC re-entry students must have
a 2.7 GPA or better, or if not receiving grades at UCSC evaluations
from each professor may be requested.
- Students must show need for financial assistance.
- Students must plan to attend public California state colleges or
universities.
- Students must submit personal and financial information,
including the most recent tax return.
- Letter of Recommendation from a teacher or counselor
- A short biography explaining special
circumstances the student feels the committee should be aware of
when evaluating their application.
Applications are available
in early February from the following high school and college counseling
offices: Aptos, Harbor, Santa Cruz, Soquel,
San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley, Cabrillo College and UCSC.
Application deadline: Applications must be submitted to
the school's counselor by the deadline (usually the first week of April)
- check with the counselor's office for exact date.
Selection Process: The
Scholarship Committee will prescreen all applicants and interview the
top applicants in early May.
Date of Awards: The
scholarship recipients will be notified by mail usually within two weeks
of the interview.
